WINNERS
1ST PLACE - The Sweater
Tara E. Every, Fishkill NY
A small pink sweater
I had to laugh
Beaten down & the sleeves torn in half
That special day
I can now remember
On my birthday in that early November
It was the first I opened
It smelled so nice
Like honeysuckle, sugar & cinnamon spice
The color - a soft creamy rose
And the fabric felt like feathers
That tickled my nose
As I glanced at my sweater
I let out a sad sigh
I remembered my mother standing there right by
Asking if I liked it and of course I said yes
Wishing deep down
She instead made a dress
Looking at the sweater
I had once despised
I break down and start to cry
Treasuring every moment of my mother
When she was alive
2ND PLACE
Michelle M. Mead
Wappingers Falls NY
Timelessness
Inside the hearts
of everyone,
Though years pass on
as they've begun,
To dance and paint
a landscape bright,
And raise each soul
to a greater height,
Time closes its wings
gathering one and all,
As timelessness sings
and we heed its call,
To last until
there is time no more,
Where magic flies
and all dreams soar,
To know no space
or place too small,
We break down the walls
to watch them fall,
And so to expand
our creation's song,
We embrace infinity
when love is strong.
3RD PLACE
Paul E. Schwarze
Clinton Corners NY
If I Were a Mouse
I would be telling a tale, if I were a mouse,
And I said I would not want to live in a house.
If I were a mouse I would like to move in,
To a nice warm house away from the din.
If I were a mouse a fireplace would be nice,
A place to keep warm just for us mice.
If I were a mouse an old blanket would do for a bed,
Lined with newspapers after they were read.
If I were a mouse I would not eat too much,
Some goodies that were cooked with just the right touch.
If I were a mouse I hope your door is open for me,
I won't be any trouble that you will see.
If I were a mouse I would not be fussy about this and that,
But I won't move into a house that has a kitty cat.
